New Weekend Destination for 2011/12 Ski Season: Adelboden, Switzerland

On 31st October, Swiss airline Skywork ( is launching a winter service from London City Airport to Berne, drastically reducing transfer times from the UK to Adelboden, a picturesque mountain resort in the Bernese Oberland.

Skywork will operate two flights daily (one early morning, one evening) from Monday to Friday and one flight per day at the weekend. Catch the Friday evening flight, leaving London City at 18:30, and passengers won’t even need to take a day off work, but they will get virtually two days’ full skiing, as the flight back on Sunday leaves Berne at 17:20.

The flight time from London to Berne is just one hour, 40 minutes and the transfer time from Berne airport to Adelboden takes around 40 minutes, providing one of the fastest commercial routes into the Swiss Alps. As an added bonus, because both airports are small, the deadlines for check-in are just 30 minutes prior to take-off. Flights with Skywork start from Euros 59 (approx £51) one way, including taxes.

I, for one, will be making the most of this route and staying with my ever-lovely client, The Cambrian, Adelboden, a four-star superior property that is a member of Design Hotels and the only Mr&Mrs Smith hotel in Switzerland. Room rates at start from CHF315 (approx £240) for two people sharing, per night, including breakfast and taxes. Check the website ( for package details.
